How To Schedule An Email In Gmail (Website)

Most people prefer to use Gmail on their desktops through a web browser. Following the steps below will schedule an email in Gmail’s website version.

Step 1 – Open Gmail Through A Web Browser

The easiest way to access Gmail through your web browser is to use Google Chrome.

Using Google Chrome, open Chrome and select the Gmail button at the top right of your screen (this is just one of many Chrome Shortcuts that can speed up your workflow, which is why I use it).

If you are not using Chrome, open your web browser and type www.gmail.com into your browser’s URL bar.

Step 2 – Log Into Your Gmail Account

Log into your Gmail account using your username and password. If you don’t yet have a registered account, this Google guide will show you how to create a Gmail account.

Step 3 – Compose Your Email

Once logged into your Gmail account, start writing your email by clicking on the compose button at the top left of your screen.

A new mail window will open on the bottom right of your screen. Specify who your intended mail recipient is and what the subject of your email is, write the body content of your email and attach any necessary files to your email.

Step 4 – Schedule Your Email

Once you have composed your email and are satisfied with the contents of your email, click on the drop-down arrow located on the right-hand side of the “Send” button. Clicking on this arrow will reveal the “Schedule send” option. Click on “Schedule send.”

Step 5 – Pick A Time And Date

You need to specify when you would like your email delivered. The default options are “Tomorrow morning,” “This afternoon,” and “Monday morning .” If none of these choices apply to you, you can select “Pick date & time.”

Selecting “Pick date & time” will open a menu allowing you to specify the exact date and time your email will be sent.

Step 6 – Click Send

Once satisfied with the time and date, click the “Schedule send” button. This option will schedule your email to be sent at a future time and date.

Note: You cannot “back-date” emails to appear to have been sent on a previous date using the “Schedule send” function.

How To Schedule An Email In Gmail On Mobile

If you find yourself away from your desk more often than not, don’t fear, you can still schedule emails in the Gmail mobile app. Follow the steps below in order to schedule an email while you are away from your desktop.

Step 1 – Open The Gmail App

Step one is pretty self-explanatory. Open the Gmail app on your phone. You can do so through the Google Play Store if you have not yet downloaded the Gmail application.

Step 2 – Log Into Your Gmail Account

Once you’ve opened the Gmail app, you’ll need to sign into your Gmail account if you haven’t already done so. Enter your username and password and tap the “Sign in” button.

Step 3 – Write Your Email

Once signed into your Gmail account, write your email by tapping on the “Compose” button at the bottom right of your screen. Designate your email’s intended recipient, add a subject line and compose your email. Ensure that you have attached any relevant documents, images, or files. Now you are ready to schedule your email.

Note: You need to specify at least one recipient to schedule an email.

Step 4 – Schedule Your Email

To schedule your email, select the grouping dots to the right of the “Plane” icon at the top right of your screen. Tapping the three dots will expand the options menu, where you then need to tap on the “Schedule send” option at the top of the menu.

Step 5 – Choose The Time And Date

Once you’ve tapped on “Schedule send,” another menu will appear asking you to specify when you want your email delivered. The standard options are “Tomorrow morning,” “This afternoon,” “Monday Morning,” and “Pick date & time.” Select the option most appropriate to your needs.

If you select “Pick date & time,” another prompt will appear asking which date you would like your email sent on and what time you would like your email delivered.

Step 6 – Send Your Email

Now that you are satisfied with the time and date you want your email delivered, tap on the “Schedule send” button at the bottom right of the menu. Tapping this button will schedule your email to be delivered at the time and date you chose earlier.
